Weeds are becoming resistant to pesticides – a problem to solve

"An escalating problem is that weeds and other plant pests are becoming resistant to pesticides, making these plant protection products less effective. This applies to soil herbicides, glyphosates, and all other types of pesticides. Therefore, solutions are needed to address this issue," said Gintarė Klasauskaitė, Product Manager at the biotechnology company Nando.

According to her, one of the main reasons for weed and pest resistance is the repeated use of the same active ingredient in plant protection products, as well as the failure to follow crop rotation principles.

"Farmers, in pursuit of short-term profits, unfortunately, do not always consider what could be beneficial both technologically and in terms of long-term hygiene practices. If crop rotation is minimal or not aligned with recommended practices, additional sources for negative impacts, such as plant diseases and weed proliferation, arise," explained G. Klasauskaitė.

In addition, there are certain restrictions on herbicide use in Lithuania, both at the national and European Union levels.

What are adjuvants?

To address these challenges, Nando offers adjuvant Periplus Leaf, used with pesticides sprayed on plant leaves. Adjuvant enhance the potential of plant protection products and fertilizers, improving the efficiency of mixtures, reducing the amount of water sprayed, and adapting solutions to environmental conditions.

Periplus Leaf accelerates the absorption of active substances through leaves, regardless of the waxy layer. This is especially important in autumn, with its variable weather. This adjuvant is effective not only with plant protection products but also when combined with foliar-applied fertilizers.

Benefits: both economic and environmental

"Product not only enhance the efficacy of pesticides but also allow for optimized usage, achieving the same or better results with lower-than-maximum doses. By using adjuvants in mixtures, better effects can be achieved with smaller pesticide doses. Furthermore, adjuvants reduce water use by up to 30%, meaning that the same sprayer capacity can cover a larger area, more hectares. Advanced farmers understand and appreciate this well, as investments in advanced products pay off economically," explained G. Klasauskaitė.

When to use them?

Periplus Leaf is introduced later, once plants have germinated and there is green biomass. Both products, however, can be used in subsequent sprays throughout the season.

Nando’s biotechnological products offer effective and sustainable solutions for upcoming sprays, helping farmers achieve better results with reduced environmental impact.
